Holy Moly!!! 2011 Humboldt Blogger’s Tournament: Third Round Shockers

The Sweet 16 was anything but sweet to a couple of Number 1 seeds, and the Year of the Underdog continues.

The overall #1 Blog has fallen, and now the defending champion and Vegas favorite have an opportunity to take advantage of the misfortunes of Heraldo.  For the second year, the Humboldt Herald fails to reach the final four.  This time it is a Surfer Girl who sends the top blog home early.

The underdogs continue to be a story all onto themselves.  The Plazoid and Dreaming up Daily are still dancing, and each are one more win away from an improbable spot in the Final Four.   This could be good.

The Results

Headwaters Region

#4 early morning fog, partial clearing defeats #1 Humboldt Herald

#2 Soamoa Softball defeats #11 Always a Vixen, mostly a Vegan

What a stunner!  The surfer girl won a very tight contest over the heavily favored Herald.  Once again the Humboldt Herald falls short of expectations, and will now be a spectator as a champion is crowned.

Meanwhile, Richard Marks is back in familiar territory with a spot in the Elite Eight.  The question is, can he take that next step and reach his first Final Four?  A wonderful run came to an end for the Vegan Vixen, but she has proven herself to the Blogging Elite.

The Arcata Marsh Region

#1 Humboldt Mirror defeats #12 In Retaliation

#11 Dreaming up Daily defeats #10 Highboltage

The Bugs and the Mirror continue to dominate, and now are looking like a Final Four blog.  Another great run ends with the loss by In Retaliation.  It was a solid showing this year, and it looks like a blog that will continue to shine.

The most compelling story in this tournament has to be the surprise run of Dreaming up Daily.  This little known blog continues to mow down opponents and is now matched up against the Bugs with a ticket to the Final Four on the line.  Don’t write this blog off so fast.

Prairie Creek Region

#8 The Plazoid defeats #4 Ernie’s Place

#2 SoHum Parlance defeats #3 Lynette’s NorCal History Blog

The Plazoid continues to shock the world as well.  Tad has sent the runner-up from last year home.  Ernie’s run back to the Final Four was spirited, but came up short.

Eric Kirk was taking a beating in the polls, and appeared to be headed for an early exit from the tournament.  Now he stands just one win away from returning to the Final Four to defend his crown.  Lynette came up just a short, but proved she has an elite blog, and next year could be even better for her.

Richardson Grove Region

#5 The Sunny Side defeats #1 Chocolate Covered Xanax

#3 Tom Sebourn defeats #2 Redheaded Blackbelt

Those of awaiting the rematch between Kristabel and Kym had to see the two ladies bounced from the tournament instead.  For CCX it is a disappointment because expectations were so high down the stretch.  For Kym, her dream of getting back to the Final Four is over for this year, and I am sure that she already training for next year.

Bob Huck and Tom Sebourn are both very worthy of spots in the Final Four, and they each beat a power blog to get here.  This is new territory for these two, and it will be a classic blogger’s duel.

  1. I don’t even know what to say, Kym. Mud wrestling, disco karaoke contest, dodgeball with drag queens….it’ll all have to wait until next year.

I say we just sit on the sidelines together and drink for the remainder of this tournament.
